Classy Die-cutting

As the heatwave continues to rage here in England (it does happen occasionally) Christmas in July is going strong my friend and I am going to share tips and tricks for Classy die-cutting.

Be warned – these cards will be so classy you might even impress your pickiest friends and family!

I’ll be using the Gemini Create-A-Card Interchangeable Holly Frame Die set for all the projects.

The set comes with 5 dies in total.

  • 1 x Square die
  • 1 x Holly Frame
  • 3 interchangeable sentiment dies

There is so much scope for fun with the die set, it was a blast to play with and it cut really well every time.

FYI my Die-Cutting machine of choice is the Crafter’s Companion Gemini.

Classy die-cutting starts with a basic rule of thumb. LESS IS MORE.

I’ll walk you through the details for each card in a moment and you’ll notice that I didn’t add much to any of them. Be mindful with your colour choices and when you have a beautiful die-set let it do the talking for you.

All the projects start with die-cutting the square, frame and sentiment at the same time. My tip is to secure them to your card with some low-tack tape before you run them through your machine.

I used the same card blanks for all 3. They measure approx 5 3/4 x 5 3/4″

Card 1 – Jolly Holly Days

Die-cut from white card with the Jolly Holly Days sentiment

Cut Purple Mirri card at 5 1/4 x 5 1/4″

Cut white card at 5 1/2 x 5 1/2″

Glue all layers to the card as shown.

This glue is awesome! Just buy yourself some smaller reusable bottles to decant it into and you’ll save on plastic too!

Tie a bow using 1 1/4 inch white satin ribbon and adhere with glue dots.

Card 2 – Deck the Halls

Die Cut from Ombre paper using the Deck the Halls sentiment.

Die-cut a white square using the one from the set.

Glue the Ombre and white squares together and add to the card using foam pads and tape.

Add green adhesive gems to the ornament elements of the sentiment.

Card 3 – ‘Tis The Season

Die-cut from green card and the sentiment a second time from red card stock. Cut the lower portion of the frame in red also, you just need the bow. I used Dovecraft Premium Textured cardstock.

Cut a white square using the included die and card from the same paper pack.

Carefully snip away holly and berries from the red sentiment and glue to the green frame and sentiment as shown.

Add some red adhesive gems to replicate berries.

Paper piece the red bow into the green frame and glue all the layers together.

Do you have a favourite?

I’m really happy with how all of them turned out but I do have a particular soft spot for the ombre card. AND it was so quick to make. But no one else needs to know that classy cards are quick to make, right?

Be sure to leave your favourite in the comments below, or just say hi!

By the way, die set I used today is currently on sale, win win!
